Alejandro Manevich

Alex’s diverse practice reflects his atypical career path: opinions solicitor, then regulatory lawyer, arbitration counsel, and commercial litigator. While he has a particular fondness for administrative law, cross-border, and complex contractual matters, he freely admits to having a near-voracious appetite for law, and has even been known to unwind by reading case reports (though usually with a glass of craft brew nearby). Did we mention that he’s trilingual? Habla Español/Français/English? ¡Muy impresionante! As a confirmed law nerd, he is often the go-to lawyer in the office for novel legal issues. Nonetheless, he views legal expertise as only a part of his role. Whether acting as advocate or advisor, Alex’s goal is always to interpret legal risks pragmatically, in light of a client’s business and priorities. If asked, he is always ready to point out that most commercial clients retain a lawyer to solve a business problem, not to receive a heavily footnoted memo – though given his dozen years practising at some of Canada’s largest firms, he is always able to deliver a memo if that’s your thing. Alex is also passionately committed to legal informatics, and enjoys mucking about with information technology to explore ways to make his legal practice more efficient. Now and then he breaks things.
