D. John Hamilton

John practices exclusively in the area of family law. This includes the negotiation of comprehensive settlements, when that is possible, and litigation, when that is necessary and in his clients’ best interests. He has extensive experience in both approaches, including over 40 years of appearing in Ontario courts at various levels. John believes that each case is a unique blend of legal, practical, and emotional issues, which often requires something more than a “cookie cutter” solution. He is acutely aware of the human dynamic between the parties in each situation. John brings to each case not only his formidable and practiced legal skills but also infinite (and, we think, legendary) patience. He also has the ability to quickly analyze the complexities, financial and otherwise, of each matter. John creates and appreciates sensible, realistic, and cost-effective solutions. Above all, he has exceptional common sense, and is an adept problem solver. When not negotiating or advocating for a client, John can usually be found with a tennis racquet in his hand, wearing down some opponent, or in some exotic place in the world.
