THE
ROBERT D. PRESTON
SCHOLARSHIP

The firm contributed $50,000 in memory of our partner, colleague, and friend Robert (Bob) D. Preston LLB ’69, who passed away in 2013 at age 68. As managing partner at Ricketts Harris, he was a true renaissance man with wide-ranging interests and skills as a lawyer, skier, squash player, golfer, and world traveller. The Robert D. Preston Entrance Award in Law will be presented every year to a full-time undergraduate student entering first year at Western Law school who demonstrates financial need and an interest or background in entrepreneurship.

THE THOUGHTFULNESS COMMITTEE

Lest you think we are just playing lip service to the idea of Thoughtfulness, we have actually created a Thoughtfulness Committee. Charged with embedding our governing philosophy in absolutely everything we do, the TC casts a kind but critical eye over our processes, procedures, and physical spaces to ensure we incorporate contemplation and consideration in everything we do. During the winter holidays, our TC leads the way with fun, charitable (but competitive) challenges for our entire team. To the victor goes the title: Most Thoughtful!

PRO BONO

In our book, it is imperative to give a voice to those who might otherwise be deprived of the opportunity to be properly heard. Over the years, lawyers and staff at Ricketts Harris have given of themselves and their time to level the playing field when it comes to unequal access to legal representation. Most recently, we intervened on a Charter challenge to provincial legislation, as part of a storied history of lawyers donating their time and resources to advance the administration of justice.
